£65,000–£80,000 per year | Hybrid, Warrington | Full-time, permanent | 37.5 hours per week

About Synextra

Synextra is an independent Azure specialist supporting regulated UK businesses, including law firms, mortgage lenders and financial services organisations. We’re small by design, with a focus on technical depth, customer service and taking responsibility for the environments we run.

Alongside our managed cloud services, our AI engineering team builds agent products for those same customers. We’re looking for an experienced Azure engineer who enjoys solving difficult operational problems and delivering engineering work alongside developers.

The role

You’ll work across our cloud engineering team, client projects and AI engineering team, combining deep Azure troubleshooting with planned development and automation work.

Our customers run a wide variety of environments in Azure, from virtual machines, networking and identity through to managed application services and modern cloud platforms. You’ll be someone our wider cloud engineering team can turn to for the most complex or significant Azure issues—helping investigate faults, restore service and understand what needs to change to prevent a repeat.

Alongside that operational responsibility, you’ll contribute to development sprints: building environments in Terraform, improving deployment pipelines, implementing monitoring and developing the platforms that support our AI products.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys that breadth. You’re comfortable getting into the detail of a difficult customer incident, sharing your expertise with other engineers and taking planned work through implementation, review, testing and release.

What you’ll be doing

Supporting customers and our cloud engineering team

Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex and high-impact Azure incidents across customer environments.

Troubleshoot across infrastructure and application services, including compute, networking, DNS, identity, storage and service dependencies.

Work alongside other engineers to investigate faults, restore service and communicate clear findings and next steps.

Follow significant incidents through to root cause, turning findings into improvements in configuration, monitoring, automation and operational guidance.

Share your expertise through practical troubleshooting, technical reviews and mentoring.

Participate in an on-call rota as part of delivering production systems.

Delivering projects and sprint work

Build and maintain Azure environments using Terraform, including reusable modules, state management and drift remediation.

Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.

Work with developers to refine requirements, break work into manageable tasks and deliver changes through pull requests, testing and release.

Automate recurring tasks and replace manual processes with dependable, repeatable solutions.

Contribute to technical designs and help make practical decisions about reliability, security, performance and cost.

Produce clear documentation and handovers so the wider team can confidently support what you build.

Working with our AI engineering team

Build and operate the Azure environments supporting our AI products and customer deployments.

Develop deployment pipelines across development, testing and production, including isolated client environments.

Implement networking, identity, secrets management and access controls.

Improve monitoring, alerting and visibility into service performance and cost, including AI consumption.

Help developers investigate production issues and turn operational experience into better engineering practices.

What you’ll bring

Strong hands-on Azure experience across both IaaS and PaaS, with a track record of diagnosing complex production faults.

A solid understanding of how compute, networking, DNS, identity and storage interact, and confidence investigating problems that cross those boundaries.

Practical experience with Azure application services such as App Service, Container Apps, Functions or API Management.

Experience writing and maintaining Terraform, including modules, state management and safely changing existing environments.

Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, and working through Git branches, pull requests and code review.

The ability to write useful automation in PowerShell, Python or another scripting language.

Clear communication with customers and colleagues, sound judgement during incidents and the ability to deliver agreed engineering work independently.

You don’t need to have used every Azure service. We’re interested in the depth of your understanding, how you investigate unfamiliar problems and the work you’ve delivered.

Useful additional experience

Working in an MSP, consultancy, SaaS business or development team.

Supporting regulated customers or operating across multiple customer environments.

Azure Monitor, Application Insights, KQL or OpenTelemetry.

Multi-tenant architecture and tenant isolation.

Deploying or operating AI and LLM-based services.

Relevant Microsoft certifications, such as AZ-104, AZ-305 or AZ-400. We’ll fund relevant certifications you want to work towards.

How we work

Customer support and planned engineering delivery are both substantial parts of this role. You’ll work with colleagues across the teams to agree priorities, communicate when urgent work affects delivery and follow tasks through to a proper conclusion.

We value people who stay calm when something breaks, ask good questions and share what they learn. Your contribution will be visible in the reliability of our customer environments, the quality of what we deliver and the capability of the engineers around you.

What we offer

A salary of £65,000–£80,000, depending on relevant experience and capability.

Hybrid working based at our Birchwood Park office in Warrington.

A permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.

Funded relevant Microsoft certifications.

Varied technical work across customer environments, cloud projects and AI products.

Direct access to leadership and the opportunity to influence technical decisions and working practices.

See yourself at Dataminr

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you sit at the intersection of our technology and our customers’ hardest problems. Working in small teams with a high degree of ownership, you will deploy, build on, and operationalize First Alert inside customer environments — many of them defense, national security, and NATO-aligned organizations across Europe. Projects often begin with an open-ended operational question, and it is your job to translate that into a working solution that gives operators decision advantage in real time.

A defining part of this role is building on Palantir Foundry. You will design data pipelines, ontologies, and applications in Foundry that fuse Dataminr’s real-time intelligence with the customer’s own operational data — sensor feeds, asset and troop locations, and mission context — then own that solution end to end, from first whiteboard sketch to a system operators rely on in the field or the operations center. Your week might span debugging infrastructure and networking issues, discussing data architecture with fellow engineers, integrating Dataminr APIs, and sitting with customer stakeholders to shape what to build next.

AI Innovation at Dataminr

Working at Dataminr you’ll have the opportunity to tackle the most exciting trends in AI on a daily basis to power a revolutionary product that uncovers critical events around the world as they unfold.

Regenerative AI: our AI technology, ReGenAI, is a new form of generative AI that automatically regenerates real-time Live Event Briefs as events unfold.
The opportunity

Partner directly with defense and security customers to understand their highest-priority situational awareness and force protection problems, then scope solutions against them.

Design, build, and deploy solutions on Palantir Foundry that operationalize First Alert — including data pipelines, ontology models, and operator-facing applications.

Integrate Dataminr’s real-time intelligence into customer workflows, common operating pictures, and existing command-and-control tooling, ensuring users with disparate information requirements across the organization are receiving mission-relevant information.

Build and fine-tune custom widgets where needed to enable customers to best operationalize real-time intelligence.

Own solutions end to end, working with minimal supervision and making sound technical decisions independently.

Debug across the full stack — infrastructure, networking, and application layers — often in restricted, disconnected, or on-premise environments.

Act as a trusted technical advisor to customer engineers and operators, and channel their feedback back into the Dataminr product.

Travel to customer sites and operations centers across Europe as needed (approximately 25–75% of the time).

What you bring

At Dataminr, we value you for who you are. We encourage you to apply for this role, even if you don’t meet every qualification. Our candidates are reviewed on the basis of their skill and potential to succeed.

A strong engineering background, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.

Palantir Foundry expertise: hands-on experience building on Palantir Foundry — data pipelines, ontology, Compute Modules, Code Repositories / Workbooks, and application development. This is a core requirement for the role.

Programming: proficiency in one or more of Python, Java, SQL, TypeScript/JavaScript, Bash, or Go.

Dataminr architecture & use cases: the ability to quickly understand the Dataminr platform architecture, data model, and First Alert defense and public sector use cases, and to reason about how technical decisions affect the operator.

3+ years of professional software engineering or forward-deployed / solutions engineering experience delivering production systems.

Infrastructure: familiarity with containers (Docker / Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes / OpenShift), plus solid Linux, networking, and on-premise infrastructure fundamentals.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and to thrive in a fast-changing environment with iterative, mission-driven objectives.

NATO Secret clearance: an active NATO Secret security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one. This is a requirement for the role.

Willingness to travel approximately 25–75% and to work on-site in secure customer facilities.

Nice to have

Experience deploying software in classified, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted / disconnected environments.

Background supporting defense, intelligence, national security, or emergency-management operations.

Familiarity with geospatial platforms and a common operating picture (e.g., Esri / ArcGIS) or command-and-control systems.

Experience with front-end frameworks and building data-rich, operator-facing applications.

Understanding of NATO or national defense customer environments and their accreditation and compliance requirements.

Proficiency in an additional European language.

About CircleCI Engineering

CI/CD has been solved. Now it’s being reinvented. AI agents don’t just run pipelines. They write code, trigger builds, interpret failures, and propose fixes. The interfaces that developers use to understand and trust that work don’t exist yet. We’re building them.

At CircleCI, our guiding principles aren’t posters on a wall. We learn fast: we run experiments, accept failure, and scale what works. We think like the customer: every decision connects back to the developer sitting in front of a failing build at 2 am. We own the outcome: not just our slice of it, but the whole thing. If that’s how you already work, you’ll fit here.

Team-Agnostic Placement

We don’t hire for a team. We hire for CircleCI. Where you land depends on where your strengths create the most leverage, and we figure that out together. You might own the CI pipeline experience, deploy and release tooling, notification infrastructure, monetization flows, AI agent surfaces, or the foundational web platform. The through line across all of it is the same: full-stack ownership, a high bar for craft, and work that directly shapes how tens of thousands of developers experience CircleCI every day.

What You’ll Do

Build AI-natively. AI is how we work. It’s not a productivity layer on top of engineering, but the default starting point for how problems get approached and solved.

Invent new interfaces. Software delivery is being reinvented. Pipelines run autonomously, generate fixes, and surface results that need human judgment. The tools developers use to understand, trust, and act on that work don’t exist yet. You’ll define what they look like.

Obsess over craft. Reliability and responsiveness are design concerns, not afterthoughts. Care about how the interface holds up when stakes are high.

Champion observability. Use Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar to understand and improve your systems. Operational data drives stability, not just incident response.

Pick up slack. You’ll notice gaps and close them — not because you were asked, but because that’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

What You’ll Bring

AI-native engineering practices. You use AI tools daily and can speak to what you’ve built, where they changed your approach, and where they fall short.

A track record of shipping. You’ve built something real and put it in front of users. 3+ years of production full-stack, backend leaning experience.

Backend depth. Strong backend expertise in Go, including API design, data modeling, and service integration, with the ability to contribute across the stack when needed.

System design. You think about architecture, not just features. You make conscious tradeoffs and document your reasoning.

Production mindset. Latency, responsiveness, and reliability are design concerns. You’re comfortable operating services in a distributed environment.

Sound like you?

You’ve stopped waiting for AI to mature and are already building with it, not as a productivity trick, but as a core part of how you think about problems. You care about the product as much as the code. You’re drawn to work where the patterns don’t exist yet and the best answer requires you to invent it. If that’s how you already operate, we want to talk.
