Hexwired Recruitment is working with a rapidly growing solutions provider in Yatton, now looking for an Embedded Linux Engineer to support the delivery of key client projects across multiple industries. You’ll be part of a small, highly technical team, working with modern tools and technologies on a diverse range of products.

This role is primarily onsite due to the nature of the work, with some flexibility for occasional remote working.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems for a variety of applications
• Design and build Linux kernel drivers from scratch
• Work with build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot to customise Linux environments
• Collaborate with the development team to deliver high-quality solutions for clients
• Contribute to multiple projects across different sectors, gaining broad technical exposure

Key Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of commercial software development experience
• Strong experience with Embedded Linux systems
• Proven experience developing Linux drivers from scratch
• Experience using Yocto or Buildroot
• Consultancy experience is beneficial but not essential

About the Role

As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you’ll play a key role in research, design, and development across a range of advanced products. You’ll work across the full product lifecycle—from concept and prototyping through to manufacturing—while also contributing to project management and client engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design and develop high-performance sensor measurement and control systems
• Lead and contribute to R&D projects from concept through to production
• Apply analogue signal chain design and simulation techniques
• Develop embedded hardware solutions, optimising for performance, cost, and power consumption
• Work on low-power and battery-powered system designs
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams, both on-site and remotely
• Support project delivery, ensuring alignment with time, budget, and client expectations
• Contribute to business development and client-facing technical discussions

What We’re Looking For

• Strong academic background in Electronics, Engineering, or a related field
• Deep understanding of analogue signal chain design and simulation
• Experience with embedded hardware system design and architecture
• Knowledge of low-power and battery-operated designs
• Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging across all levels of the business
• Hands-on problem solver with a proactive and innovative mindset

Desirable Skills

• Experience with schematic design and PCB layout (Altium Designer preferred)
• Understanding of metrology and physical systems
• Knowledge of signal processing and filtering (analogue and digital)
• Familiarity with C/C++ for microcontroller or mixed-signal system development

Working Environment

• Primarily based in Cambridge with opportunities for UK and international travel
• Office and laboratory-based role
• Standard working hours (37.5 hours per week) with occasional travel (approx. 10%)
