<h6>The Opportunity</h6>
<p>Avon Protection is seeking an Electronics Technician to support the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced electronic systems used across respiratory protection equipment, rebreather technology, and thermal imaging products.</p>
<p>This hands-on technical role is focused on ensuring that both prototype and production hardware meets the highest standards of reliability, safety, and performance. Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, you will contribute to the development, validation, and ongoing support of mission-critical electronic products used in demanding operational environments.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling and reworking electronic assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), and wiring looms, while carrying out testing, calibration, and fault diagnosis activities in accordance with established procedures and ESD requirements.</p>
<p>In addition, you will help investigate production and customer return issues, perform repairs, maintain accurate technical records, and provide valuable feedback that supports continuous improvement initiatives across both new product development and existing product lines.</p>
<h6>Key Responsibilities</h6>
<p>The Electronics Technician will be responsible for:</p>
<ul>
<li>Building, testing, and calibrating electronic assemblies and PCBAs used within respiratory protection and detection systems.</li>
<li>Diagnosing and repairing analogue and digital electronic circuits to component level using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers, and other electronic test equipment.</li>
<li>Conducting functional, environmental, and validation testing, including vibration, temperature, and EMI testing in line with industry and military standards.</li>
<li>Supporting engineers with prototype builds, verification activities, and the creation of test fixtures during product development programmes.</li>
<li>Maintaining accurate documentation, including calibration records, test procedures, failure analysis reports, and repair logs within ERP and quality management systems.</li>
<li>Investigating production and field return issues, recording findings clearly, and supporting corrective actions.</li>
<li>Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and reliability.</li>
<li>Ensuring full compliance with IPC standards, ESD controls, quality procedures, and health and safety requirements.</li>
<li>Maintaining laboratory and production test equipment to maximise uptime and support operational efficiency.</li>
</ul>
<h6>Essential Skills and Requirements</h6>
<p>Candidates should possess a strong technical background in electronics assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.</p>
<p>Essential requirements include:</p>
<ul>
<li>A minimum of two to three years&#8217; hands-on experience in electronics assembly, fault finding, testing, or repair, ideally within defence, aerospace, medical device, or similarly regulated industries.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, circuit diagrams, and component datasheets.</li>
<li>Understanding of microcontroller-based systems, sensor interfaces, and low-power electronic designs.</li>
<li>Experience working with ESD handling procedures and control measures.</li>
<li>Ability to support prototype assembly builds, test fixtures, and product verification activities.</li>
<li>Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively alongside engineering, production, and customer support teams.</li>
<li>Good written and verbal communication skills.</li>
<li>Clear understanding of quality standards and the importance of ESD compliance.</li>
<li>Ability to travel regularly to the Avon Protection site in Poole and occasionally visit customers or suppliers within the UK and internationally.</li>
</ul>
<h6>Desirable Skills and Experience</h6>
<p>The following qualifications and experience would be advantageous:</p>
<ul>
<li>Associate Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering Technology or a related discipline.</li>
<li>Experience supporting the development, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic systems.</li>
<li>Previous experience working within highly regulated sectors such as defence, aerospace, or medical devices.</li>
<li>Experience identifying and resolving manufacturing, assembly, and product testability issues.</li>
<li>Ability to investigate, diagnose, and repair returned customer products while maintaining accurate service records.</li>
<li>Experience maintaining calibration documentation, repair histories, quality records, and ERP/QMS documentation.</li>
<li>Involvement in reliability testing and continuous improvement programmes.</li>
<li>Strong practical knowledge of surface mount and through-hole soldering techniques.</li>
<li>IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications would be beneficial.</li>
<li>Knowledge of IPC 620 standards with hands-on experience assembling and inspecting cables, wiring harnesses, and connector systems.</li>
</ul>
<h6>Experience Required</h6>
<p>Applicants should have at least two to three years of practical experience in electronics assembly, testing, fault diagnosis, or repair. Experience gained within defence, aerospace, medical devices, or other highly regulated industries would be particularly beneficial.</p>

<li>Commercial experience working with serial communication protocols and interfaces, including RS232, RS422, TCP/IP, and similar technologies.</li>
