Electronics Engineer job in Surrey – DOE

The Role

SatVu is looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer (Imager Electronics) to take ownership of delivering the HotSat-4 imager electronics. This role will be based full-time on-site in Guildford with their satellite manufacturing partner, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), throughout the payload build phase.

This is a hands-on position where you’ll work closely with SSTL’s Optical Imaging Lead and Imager Electronics team, driving the delivery of key electronics components. Your focus will include analogue and digital hardware development, alongside testing and verification activities across manufacturing, AIV (Assembly, Integration & Verification), and final delivery.

Following the build phase, you’ll transition into SatVu’s internal technical team, helping to retain design knowledge and contribute to the long-term electronics strategy as the satellite constellation expands. While your day-to-day technical direction will come from SSTL’s on-site leadership, you will report into SatVu’s Programmes Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop analogue and digital electronics for optical payload subsystems, including schematics and board-level designs ready for production and testing
• Carry out circuit simulation, FPGA interfacing (VHDL), and scripting for automated testing (e.g. Python, TCL)
• Develop ground support equipment and assist with AIV activities
• Diagnose and resolve hardware issues, while producing assembly instructions, test procedures, and verification reports
• Maintain traceability of design data to support IP transfer and technical due diligence
• Collaborate with SSTL system engineers on design trade-offs, budgets, and delivery timelines

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, with proven experience in space electronics
• Strong background in mixed-signal design
• Hands-on experience with circuit testing and debugging
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or TCL
• Understanding of FPGA development using VHDL
• Experience working with standard electronics lab equipment
• Knowledge of PCB design tools (e.g. Mentor) and experience with low-volume, high-reliability manufacturing environments is beneficial
• Strong documentation, planning, and cross-team communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels

Interview Process

• Technical interview: A deeper technical conversation with SatVu and SSTL leadership (approx. 60 minutes), held either remotely or on-site in Guildford
