A little about us

incident.io is the AI software reliability platform trusted by engineering teams at Netflix, Etsy, and 2,000+ companies who can’t afford downtime.

The stakes are real, the talent is insane, and somehow it’s a genuinely lovely place to work. We all pull our weight, go the extra mile, and put in the bit of magic most companies don’t have time for, all while having fun and never taking ourselves too seriously.

We’ve raised $96 million from Index Ventures, Insight Partners, and Point Nine, and we’re growing fast. There’s never been a better time to join.

The role in one line

Being a Platform Engineer at incident means being the detective every other engineer wishes they could clone, tracing a mystery from a flaky load balancer to a bad Terraform diff, turning “why is this broken” into “here’s exactly why, and here’s how we stop it happening again.”

What that looks like day to day

As a Platform Engineer at incident, you own everything that isn’t the product itself: infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, databases, and the systems that let our product engineers ship fast without thinking twice about what’s underneath them. It’s a genuinely varied role. One day you’re tracing a scaling issue through a database, the next you’re rethinking a Terraform module, the next you’re pairing with a product engineer to unblock something that’s been quietly slowing them down.

Right now, scaling is front and centre. We’ve got more product engineers building more of the product than ever, and more customers putting real load on it, so the work you do directly shapes whether that growth feels smooth or painful.

You’ll work closest with our product engineers, day in and day out. You’re part of a small, three-person platform team, which means your fingerprints are on everything. There’s no hiding in a big team here, and no waiting for someone else to pick things up.

Like the rest of engineering, we lean on tools like Claude Code and Cursor to move faster, not as a gimmick, but because it genuinely changes what’s possible day to day.

Who you are

You take real ownership. You don’t wait to be told what to fix, you see the thing that’s slowing everyone down and you go fix it.

You build tooling like a product engineer would. You think about the person using it, not just whether it technically works.

You’re genuinely great at observability. You don’t just set up dashboards because you’re told to, you want to actually see what’s happening in the system, and you get restless when you can’t.

You’ve got a knack for unpicking confounding issues, the kind where the bug could be in the app, the database, the load balancer, or a Terraform file, and you’re the person who enjoys following the thread until you find it.

You care, properly, about making other engineers’ lives better. The measure of a good day for you isn’t just “it works,” it’s “that was annoying for people, and now it isn’t.”

You keep half an eye on what’s new in security, cloud, and developer experience, not because you have to, but because you’d be reading about it anyway.

You’re comfortable with high autonomy. Nobody’s going to hand you a detailed spec, you’re trusted to figure out what needs doing and just do it.

Supporting you

We work hard and we think life outside work matters just as much. Our benefits pack is built to support both.

Private medical insurance. Seriously good cover – we want you and the people you love to be looked after.

Competitive annual leave. Showing up at your best requires switching off, and we make sure you have time to do that.

First Friday of every month off. Yes, seriously.

Enhanced pension. We put real money in, because future-you deserves better than an afterthought.

Meaningful equity. We’re rapidly scaling, and everyone who helps shape the outcome should share in it.

Unlimited AI spend. For everyone, not just engineers. We’re all-in on AI across the company, and we expect you to be too.

Generous parental leave. The early days with a new baby matter more than anything we’re doing here, and we want you to be present for them.

Two budgets that have your back. £1000 to invest in your setup, £500 a year to invest in yourself.

This is a full-time role starting in June or September 2027 depending on graduation dates.

The role in one line

Whether you join as an intern or a grad, your first real code here doesn’t sit in a sandbox- it ships to the teams keeping the the internet running, even in week 1.

What that looks like day to day

You’ll sit inside one of our product teams from day one- same stand-ups, same code review, same production access as everyone else. You’ll pick up real work alongside full-time engineers, and you’ll own at least one meaningful project end to end: idea, build, ship, watch people use it.

Our engineers know what it’s like to be paged at 3am- the adrenaline, the scramble to pull the right people in, the frustration of piecing context together from a dozen scattered tools. Everything we build is aimed at killing that experience. Which means the stakes are real: thousands of companies are mid-incident when they open incident.io, so we care about polish as much as we care about speed.

You’ll work in Go, TypeScript with React, and Postgres, deployed on Google Cloud using GKE and Cloud SQL. Infrastructure is Terraform, with BigQuery, PubSub and Cloud Storage in the mix. Sentry, Grafana + Prometheus and Kibana for monitoring, CircleCI for testing and deploys. You won’t know all of that on day one, and nobody expects you to.

Over the past year we’ve built some of the most ambitious AI-native features in our space- agents that investigate incidents, explain what’s happening, and increasingly fix things themselves. Interns and grads work on this, not around it. We’re all-in on AI internally too, and you’ll have unlimited AI spend from your first week.

We’ll be straight with you about the bar: we’ll treat you like a full-time engineer. Full ownership, hard deadlines and shipping fast enough that you’ll break things and learn from it. There’s genuine support around you- senior engineers, proper mentorship, people invested in you doing well- but nobody’s going to hold your hand through it.

What your background looks like:

You’re enrolled in a full-time Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science (or a related field)

Know any programming language such as: Go, C#, Python, Ruby on Rails or Javascript.

What you need to be successful:

Have a bias for action and ownership and like to get things shipped, learn from mistakes, and take responsibility for your work.

Stay curious and don’t just accept things as they are, enjoying asking “why?” and “what if?”

Collaborate in person and get energy from being around others, bouncing around ideas, asking questions, and giving and receiving feedback.

Love building whether it’s features, tools, or ideas, and enjoy creating things and seeing them make an impact.

Enjoy fast-paced environments and feel comfortable with change and the energy that comes with moving quickly.

Keep a low ego by staying humble and staying focused on the wider mission.

At incident.io, what you build is yours: the whole loop, from hearing directly from customers what’s worth building, to building it, with the trust to run with it and make something you’re actually proud of.

What that looks like day to day

You’ll spend real time in the codebase, but also on calls with customers, in Slack threads with them, reading their feedback. Understanding what customers need matters as much as building it. Once something’s yours, it’s yours end to end: the design and planning, the implementation, the testing, the delivery, and the follow up conversation with the customer who asked for it.

Day to day you’re working in Go, TypeScript and React. That’s just what we use, not a requirement for what you’ve used before. We care about how you think, not which stack you’ve clocked hours in.

We build with AI, not around it. Claude Code, Cursor, and Wispr are all standard kit here.

Flat structure, no ladder. People come from all kinds of backgrounds: some have founded companies, some have been CTOs, some are earlier in their careers. Here everyone’s the same thing: a builder. The only thing that actually matters is whether you’re curious about how the whole thing works, not just your bit of it.

Who you are

You spot things before anyone asks you to. If a customer’s about to notice a problem, you’ve usually already fixed it.

“If not me, then who” is basically how you operate. You don’t wait around for something to be officially yours before you deal with it.

You’re comfortable in ambiguity, not just tolerant of it. Early ideation, half formed problems, and shifting priorities don’t throw you off.

You share work when it’s about 70% done, not 100%: drafts, MVPs, rough cuts, because you’d rather get feedback early than polish something in isolation.

You’re product minded, not just technically minded. You have real opinions about what should get built and why, and you’re not shy about sharing them.

You communicate clearly, whether that’s a Slack message to a customer, a design doc, or explaining a tricky trade off to your team.

You adapt fast. Feedback changes your plan, not your mood.

Supporting you

We work hard and we think life outside work matters just as much. Our benefits pack is built to support both.
