What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll work closely with product managers, designers, mobile and web engineers, analysts, researchers, and more. Together, you’ll develop and scale the services that power Monzo.

You’ll:

• Design and build robust backend systems using modern distributed architecture

• Help define technical direction and improve engineering standards

• Deliver scalable and secure APIs and services

• Work on meaningful customer problems and measure the impact of your solutions

• Guide and mentor engineers within your team

You Should Apply If You:

• Have significant experience building and maintaining backend systems in production

• Bring a product-first mindset—focused on solving real user problems

• Are confident navigating ambiguity and working in fast-paced teams

• Enjoy working with modern, typed programming languages (Go, Java, C++, Scala, etc.)

• Are excited about distributed systems, reliability, and scalability challenges

• Want to work on products used by millions of people every day
