Ready to shape engineering at scale? As our Engineering Lead, you’ll drive the platforms and tooling that help teams deliver faster, safer, and smarter.

Our vision is to bring tech revolution to the financial services industry. Learn more here – https://www.cushon.co.uk/about

So, to support us in this mission, we are looking for an Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership for one of our teams. You will help set direction for shared infrastructure and engineering operations – the production hosting, security perimeter, release pipelines, observability, and developer tooling that every engineering squad depends on to ship safely. This is a role that includes Line Management responsibility for your team of 5-7 Engineers with the assistance of an assigned Engineering Manager.

The Role

Technical Leadership

Lead the evolution of backend architecture across our PHP platform, Go services, and GraphQL/API layers – balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability

Guide API and domain design standards – clear service boundaries, consistent contracts, and pragmatic integration between modern services and legacy systems

Shape event-driven and integration patterns so teams can build independently without breaking cross-squad journeys

Champion automated testing, observability, and production readiness for backend services – PHPUnit, Go tests, Datadog, and safe release practices

Oversee database and schema evolution practices – migrations, data integrity, and performance – in partnership with platform and infrastructure teams

Lead incident response for backend-owned systems – triage, escalation, post-incident reviews, and runbook quality

Mentor engineers on PHP (Yii/Yii2), Go, Security, Performance and Optimisation – raising the bar through design review and hands-on contribution when needed

Support production readiness for high-risk changes – coordinated cutovers, rollouts, and cross-team dependencies at the legacy/modern boundary

Delivery Leadership

Lead delivery of complex, multi-team initiatives by managing dependencies, resources, and blockers

Define and drive technical strategy, improving engineering practices and delivery processes

Build strong partnerships across product, engineering, security, and business teams

Keep teams focused on priorities while balancing technical debt and operational needs

Drive collaboration across teams and lead cross-engineering initiatives with fellow Engineering Leads.

People & Developer experience

Lead, coach, and mentor engineers to strengthen delivery and technical leadership

Stay hands-on when needed, contributing to designs, code, and operational improvements

Enhance developer experience through better tooling, documentation, and onboarding

Support hiring and help raise the bar for engineering talent

Empower teams to take ownership while providing guidance and direction where needed

Qualifications

What you’ll bring

Leadership & delivery

Ability to align technical decisions with delivery timelines, reliability targets, and business needs

Expertise in championing engineering best practices while balancing speed, quality, and operational stability

Skill in reviewing and contributing to technical designs that meet quality and security standards

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills at all levels

Capability to coach and mentor team members in delivery practices and technical leadership

Strategic and tactical decision-making abilities
Commitment to creating an empowering team environment that prioritises customer experience and engineering productivity

Technical experience

Proven experience as a team lead or technical lead in fast-growing, regulated environments (fintech, pensions, banking, or insurance)

Deep expertise in at least one engineering discipline relevant to your squad – backend, frontend, mobile, quality, or platform operations – with solid breadth across design, build, test, and run

Track record of owning production systems end-to-end: implementation, rollout, monitoring, incident response, and follow-up

Experience leading technical delivery on complex, ambiguous initiatives involving multiple engineers, dependencies, or teams

Strong architectural judgement – evaluating trade-offs, setting direction, and aligning others on pragmatic, maintainable solutions

Expertise in automated testing, CI/CD, and safe release practices in high-stakes production environments

Familiarity with observability and operational excellence – monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and blameless learning from incidents

Understanding of security, compliance, and non-functional requirements in regulated financial services

Comfortable working across modern and legacy systems – evolving the platform incrementally rather than through unnecessary rewrites

Ability to stay hands-on – contributing to code, designs, and reviews when that is the fastest way to reduce risk or unblock the team

Department Description

Security is a hands-on, delivery-focused team that helps Allica Bank move quickly while maintaining strong, proportionate, and effective security controls.

The team combines day-to-day operational support with continuous improvement, automation, control assurance, and stakeholder partnership across the bank.

We work closely with Technology, Engineering, Product and business teams to make security practical and effective, while ensuring our controls support the requirements of a regulated banking environment.

Role Description

The purpose of this role is to strengthen Allica Bank’s identity and access controls by making access easier to request, safer to approve and simpler to evidence. The role will combine day-to-day IAM operations with engineering, automation, and continuous improvement to reduce manual effort and improve the security and governance of identity services.

The role sits within Security and focuses on Identity and Access Management, primarily across Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Entra Identity Governance, Azure identity, access management and security controls, with support for Google Cloud Platform IAM governance, engineering and automation as that capability develops.

The successful candidate will contribute to the day-to-day running of IAM services, including access requests, joiner/mover/leaver activity, access reviews, privileged access, RBAC, application SSO, and application onboarding. Alongside BAU responsibilities, they will identify and deliver improvements to processes, controls, and automation.

This is not a purely operational IAM role. The successful candidate will be expected to run IAM services, engineer improvements, automate repeatable work, strengthen controls and help mature identity services across the bank.

Experience using automation and AI tools to improve processes, reduce manual effort and strengthen security controls is desirable.

Success in this role will be measured through the quality and timeliness of IAM operations, stronger identity governance and evidence, improved automation, and reduced manual effort.

Principal Accountabilities

Operate and maintain IAM services, including user lifecycle management, access requests, provisioning, deprovisioning and access changes across Microsoft Entra ID and integrated applications.

Manage identity governance and access controls, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), least-privilege access, Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).

Manage access reviews and certifications, including reviewer engagement, evidence collection, exception handling, remediation tracking and reporting.

Onboard and integrate applications into the IAM/IGA platform, including SSO, SAML/OIDC, SCIM provisioning and secure authentication using Microsoft Entra ID.

Support application and vendor onboarding from an IAM perspective, assessing authentication, provisioning, privileged access, logging, ownership and access review requirements.

Maintain effective IAM controls and audit evidence, supporting internal and external audits and regulatory requirements.

Identify and deliver improvements through automation, improved workflows, better request processes, clearer ownership and enhanced reporting, reducing manual effort and improving control effectiveness.

Support identity-related issues and investigations, working with application owners, Technology, Security and other stakeholders to resolve access issues and manage associated risks.

Maintain IAM documentation and operational standards, including process guides, access models, onboarding standards, control evidence, and runbooks.

Support wider identity and cloud access services where needed, including Azure identity, access management and security controls, credential lifecycle management, and Google Cloud IAM governance, engineering and automation.

Provide clear reporting to Security leadership, highlighting IAM risks, control status, work in progress, blockers, and remediation actions.

Support related control and regulatory activities, including Risk Smart Indicators and Data Subject Access Requests, where IAM input or evidence is needed.

Personal Attributes & Experience

Experience in Identity and Access Management, Security Operations, Cloud Security or technical operations, ideally within a regulated or control-focused environment.

Good hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and Azure identity, access management and security controls, including users, groups, Enterprise Applications, SSO, Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management and access management controls.

Understanding of IAM principles and controls, including least privilege, RBAC, privileged access, joiner/mover/leaver processes and segregation of duties.

Experience supporting access reviews, remediation, audit evidence and operational controls, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Comfortably balancing BAU operational work with hands-on engineering, including improving processes, writing or adapting scripts, documenting workflows and automating repeatable tasks.

Able to work effectively with application owners, Technology, Security, suppliers and non-technical stakeholders to translate access requirements into practical and secure controls.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate access issues, identify root causes, and recommend practical improvements.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain identity risks, controls and needed actions in plain English.

Strong ownership and accountability, particularly where access approvals, evidence, remediation and control outcomes are involved.

Understands the importance of effective, auditable controls in an FCA/PRA-regulated environment.

Able to consider the end-user experience when designing and improving access processes, balancing security, usability, and operational efficiency.

Microsoft identity and governance: Microsoft Entra Identity Governance, Conditional Access, PIM, access reviews and Enterprise Applications

Automation and scripting: Microsoft Graph, PowerShell, Logic Apps, Azure Functions or similar automation tooling

Azure identity, access management and security controls

Application integration: SAML, SCIM, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SSO onboarding and secure provisioning patterns

Google Cloud Platform IAM governance, access models, engineering standards and automation

1Password or similar credential management platforms

Cloud audit logging and identity monitoring

Service desk and IT workflow platforms

The successful candidate does not need experience across every technology listed. Curiosity, the ability to learn quickly, and a strong understanding of IAM principles are more important than knowledge of a specific product.

At Allica Bank we want to ensure our employees have the right tools and environment in which to succeed in their role and in support of our customers.

Role Description

As a Graduate Full Stack Engineer, you’ll join a single squad and contribute across both frontend and backend under the guidance of more experienced engineers. The role exists to learn fast and ship small, well-tested changes that help our customers.

This role is ideal for someone who has recently graduated from a leading university and is excited about applying modern software engineering practices to real business problems. You may not have extensive industry experience yet, but you have demonstrated your capabilities through academic projects, internships, hackathons, research, open-source contributions, or personal projects.

You’ll build your skills in Spring Boot microservices (Kotlin/Java) and modern web technologies (React/TypeScript), working with containerised services on Azure Container Apps and web applications deployed via Azure Static Web Apps.

You’ll learn and apply our practices in testing, observability, CI/CD, security, performance, and accessibility, ensuring your changes meet the standards expected of a UK bank. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, Product Managers, and Designers: writing code, raising and responding to code reviews, pairing with colleagues, asking questions early, and using GenAI tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) responsibly and under guidance.

Principal Accountabilities:

Full Stack Delivery

Deliver scoped pieces of work end-to-end across the full stack, with support from more experienced engineers.

Build backend services as Kotlin/Java Spring Boot microservices, containerised on Azure Container Apps and exposing REST/OpenAPI APIs that integrate with other services and data stores.

Build frontend features in React/TypeScript using shared design system components and agreed architectural patterns (e.g. Nx, micro frontends), deployed on Azure Static Web Apps.

Quality, Security & Accessibility

Write automated tests for the changes you make and help improve the reliability of the squad’s CI pipelines and test suites.

Add logs, metrics, and traces to the services you work on, and use the squad’s dashboards and alerts to understand how your changes behave in production.

Apply secure coding basics (e.g. OWASP fundamentals) and follow agreed patterns for logging, audit trails, and the handling of customer data.

Build user-facing features that meet accessibility standards (WCAG-aware).

Product Development

Work closely with Product Managers and Designers in your squad to understand the intent behind the work and flag questions or issues early.

Rapidly prototype ideas and iterate based on feedback and real-world usage.

Contribute to the end-to-end delivery of features from concept through to production, leaving the codebase in better shape than you found it.

Learning & Innovation

Read and apply the squad’s Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and wider engineering standards, asking for guidance where the context is unclear.

Use GitHub Copilot/Claude Code as your primary assistive tools under guidance, demonstrating full understanding of all code you commit and validating AI-generated output before review.

Take ownership of your own development, acting on feedback from code reviews, pairing sessions, and one-to-ones with your line manager.

Stay current with developments in software engineering and AI-assisted delivery and contribute ideas in technical discussions across the team.

Personal Attributes & Experience

We strongly value:

Curiosity and a genuine passion for technology.

A builder mindset with a desire to create products that people use.

Ownership and accountability.

Strong problem-solving ability and analytical thinking.

A willingness to learn quickly and embrace feedback.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including a readiness to pick up tasks outside a specialism.

Comfort working in fast-moving and evolving environments.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field from a reputable university.

Working at Allica Bank

At Allica Bank we want to ensure our employees have the right tools and environment in which to succeed in their role and in support of our customers.

Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, so our benefits are designed with you in mind:

Full onboarding support and continued development opportunities

Options for flexible working

Regular social activities

Role Description

The Full Stack Engineer contributes to the design and delivery of products within a squad, helping to build secure, reliable, and accessible software while maintaining high engineering standards and a good developer experience.

You will use your skills in Spring Boot microservices (Kotlin/Java) and modern web technologies (React/TypeScript) to deliver features across the stack. Our backend services run as containerised applications on Azure Container Apps, and our web applications are deployed via Azure Static Web Apps; you will help ensure the services and applications you work on are production-ready and make effective use of these platforms.

You will contribute to good engineering practices in observability, CI/CD, security, performance, and accessibility, helping systems meet the standards expected of a UK bank. You will contribute to Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and follow organisation-wide patterns and standards.

You are hands-on and collaborative: you help design features, write code, review changes, and work closely with engineers, Product, and Design to deliver valuable outcomes. You use approved GenAItools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex or Claude Code responsibly to improve productivity and quality, while validating outputs carefully.

Success in this role is measured by the consistent delivery of high-quality features, contribution to reliable and maintainable systems, improvements to the codebase and operational health of services, and your growth in technical capability and ownership.

Principal Accountabilities:

Contribute to the end-to-end design and delivery of features across the full stack using:

Backend: Kotlin/Java Spring Boot microservices, containerised and deployed on Azure Container

Apps, exposing REST/OpenAPI APIs and integrating with other services and data stores.

Frontend: React/TypeScript, shared design system components, and agreed architectural patterns, deployed on Azure Static Web Apps.

Contribute to technical design discussions and help produce clear ADRs for significant decisions, documenting context, options, trade-offs, and outcomes in line with organisation standards.

Support the squad’s services in production by contributing to SLOs and operational metrics, monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and helping to reduce recurring issues and improve reliability.

Apply secure and compliant engineering practices:

Follow secure coding standards and contribute to threat modelling activities.

Ensure logging, audit trails, and data handling meet regulatory and privacy requirements.

Ensure accessibility standards are met in user-facing features.

Help strengthen observability and operational excellence within the squad by contributing to metrics, tracing, logs, dashboards, runbooks, and alerts, and using them effectively in day-to-day engineering work.

Contribute to improvements in developer experience, including CI/CD pipelines, test strategy, local development workflows, and release practices, in line with wider engineering standards and cloud deployment patterns.

Use AI-assisted engineering responsibly:

Use approved tools like GitHub Copilot, Codex or Claude Code to improve speed, quality, and consistency.

Validate and refine AI-generated code to ensure correctness, maintainability, and compliance.

Share feedback and effective practices with the team.

Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to understand requirements, shape practical solutions, and deliver work aligned to product goals and timelines.

Maintain high standards of code quality, testing, documentation, and maintainability across the squad’s codebase, while helping to reduce technical debt.

Support other engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing, contributing positively to the growth and effectiveness of the squad.

Personal Attributes & Experience

Experience building and operating Spring Boot microservices in Kotlin or Java, including REST APIs, integrations, and containerised deployments on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud also relevant).

Good knowledge of React and TypeScript, with practical experience building accessible, maintainable, and performant user interfaces.

Ability to design and deliver well-structured features within an existing architecture, with an understanding of trade-offs around scalability, maintainability, and delivery pace.

Good understanding of distributed systems fundamentals appropriate to microservices, such as resilience, latency, and failure handling.

Good understanding of secure coding practices, privacy considerations, and security expectations for production systems.

Experience with testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling; familiarity with Azure DevOps Pipelines and Azure deployment services is beneficial.

Ability to improve code quality through refactoring, clearer abstractions, and maintaining sensible boundaries between modules and services.

Experience collaborating through code review, pairing, and technical discussions to help improve team outcomes.

Experience using GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex or Claude Code to improve productivity and code quality, with a clear understanding of their limitations and the need for review and validation.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, Product Design & other stakeholders.

Working at Allica Bank

At Allica Bank we want to ensure our employees have the right tools and environment in which to succeed in their role and in support of our customers.

Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, so our benefits are designed with you in mind:

Options for flexible working

Regular social activities

Pension contributions

Discretionary bonus scheme

Private health cover

Life assurance

Family friendly policies including enhanced Maternity & Paternity leave

About CircleCI Engineering

CI/CD has been solved. Now it’s being reinvented. AI agents don’t just run pipelines. They write code, trigger builds, interpret failures, and propose fixes. The interfaces that developers use to understand and trust that work don’t exist yet. We’re building them.

At CircleCI, our guiding principles aren’t posters on a wall. We learn fast: we run experiments, accept failure, and scale what works. We think like the customer: every decision connects back to the developer sitting in front of a failing build at 2 am. We own the outcome: not just our slice of it, but the whole thing. If that’s how you already work, you’ll fit here.

Team-Agnostic Placement

We don’t hire for a team. We hire for CircleCI. Where you land depends on where your strengths create the most leverage, and we figure that out together. You might own the CI pipeline experience, deploy and release tooling, notification infrastructure, monetization flows, AI agent surfaces, or the foundational web platform. The through line across all of it is the same: full-stack ownership, a high bar for craft, and work that directly shapes how tens of thousands of developers experience CircleCI every day.

What You’ll Do

Build AI-natively. AI is how we work. It’s not a productivity layer on top of engineering, but the default starting point for how problems get approached and solved.

Invent new interfaces. Software delivery is being reinvented. Pipelines run autonomously, generate fixes, and surface results that need human judgment. The tools developers use to understand, trust, and act on that work don’t exist yet. You’ll define what they look like.

Obsess over craft. Reliability and responsiveness are design concerns, not afterthoughts. Care about how the interface holds up when stakes are high.

Champion observability. Use Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar to understand and improve your systems. Operational data drives stability, not just incident response.

Pick up slack. You’ll notice gaps and close them — not because you were asked, but because that’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

What You’ll Bring

AI-native engineering practices. You use AI tools daily and can speak to what you’ve built, where they changed your approach, and where they fall short.

A track record of shipping. You’ve built something real and put it in front of users. 3+ years of production full-stack, backend leaning experience.

Backend depth. Strong backend expertise in Go, including API design, data modeling, and service integration, with the ability to contribute across the stack when needed.

System design. You think about architecture, not just features. You make conscious tradeoffs and document your reasoning.

Production mindset. Latency, responsiveness, and reliability are design concerns. You’re comfortable operating services in a distributed environment.

Sound like you?

You’ve stopped waiting for AI to mature and are already building with it, not as a productivity trick, but as a core part of how you think about problems. You care about the product as much as the code. You’re drawn to work where the patterns don’t exist yet and the best answer requires you to invent it. If that’s how you already operate, we want to talk.
