Mechanical Design Engineer job in Basingstoke – DOE

This role is ideal for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in sheet metal and compact electronic enclosures, looking to take full ownership of designs from concept through to production. You will play a key role in developing innovative mechanical solutions for high-performance medical devices, working within a structured R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools such as SolidWorks
- Create detailed technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing and validation
- Develop sheet metal designs for high-density electronic systems with tight tolerances
- Build and test prototypes using in-house 3D printing or external suppliers
- Support verification and third-party testing, including documentation and coordination with test houses
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new product concepts
- Contribute to Design History Files and support full product lifecycle development
- Take ownership of projects from initial concept through to design transfer
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience in mechanical design and CAD (ideally SolidWorks)
- Proven ability to independently develop and deliver innovative design solutions
- Experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication principles
- Ability to manage projects independently and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working both independently and within a team environment
Desirable Experience:
- Knowledge of ISO standards such as ISO 60601 or similar regulated environments
- Experience working within structured product development processes
- Exposure to medical devices, radiotherapy, or similar high-precision industries
