Mechanical Design Engineer job in Basingstoke – DOE

This role is ideal for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in sheet metal and compact electronic enclosures, looking to take full ownership of designs from concept through to production. You will play a key role in developing innovative mechanical solutions for high-performance medical devices, working within a structured R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Create detailed technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing and validation
  • Develop sheet metal designs for high-density electronic systems with tight tolerances
  • Build and test prototypes using in-house 3D printing or external suppliers
  • Support verification and third-party testing, including documentation and coordination with test houses
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new product concepts
  • Contribute to Design History Files and support full product lifecycle development
  • Take ownership of projects from initial concept through to design transfer

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience in mechanical design and CAD (ideally SolidWorks)
  • Proven ability to independently develop and deliver innovative design solutions
  • Experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication principles
  • Ability to manage projects independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working both independently and within a team environment

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of ISO standards such as ISO 60601 or similar regulated environments
  • Experience working within structured product development processes
  • Exposure to medical devices, radiotherapy, or similar high-precision industries
